Commercial & Government Masonry Subcontracting

“Masonry, stonework, tile setting, and plastering” – old terms, but still very modern to the business of construction and facilities maintenance. The Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) classifies these four scopes of work under one umbrella, although they can be divided further to be better understood.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ website, masonry consists of using “bricks, concrete and concrete blocks, and natural and manmade stones to build structures.” Masonry is known for being a durable form of construction, however, this can be affected by the materials used to make the bricks or blocks. Later, it can also be influenced by the pattern in which the bricks or blocks are laid.

Members of our crew work hard to build a foundation that lasts.

Stonework, a more specific type of masonry, is defined by Webster as “the shaping, preparation, or setting of stone.” Much like general masonry, it is involved in the creation of buildings, sculptures, and structures, except in this case, stone is used specifically as the primary material. Said to be one of the oldest professions in human history, “stonework” is credited for some of the world’s oldest bridges, temples, and cities.

Tile setting or tile installing is the process of using materials like ceramic, porcelain, granite, or cement to cover surface areas; often used inside for kitchen and bathroom areas, or outside on a patio or walkway. A tile installer will use power tools and their hands to complete this task. And lastly, plastering is simply the process of covering the wall, ceiling, or other structure with plaster. This is done to cover the wiring and insides of the wall while also providing insulation.

All of these masonry works are essential when it comes to creating a durable place of business. Subcontractors who are experienced in the various types of masonry construction, whether it be concrete masonry, stonework masonry, or other masonry materials, is an important step in the process.
